Mattress Care & Warranty
Proper care and support can help your mattress provide lasting comfort and maintain its warranty eligibility.
Warranty coverage varies depending on the mattress model. The original bill of sale is required for all warranty claims. Northern Lights Mattress Company handles customer warranty claims directly and will guide you through the process.
Mattress Care Guidelines
1Turn or Rotate Your Mattress Regularly
For mattresses designed for use on both sides, turn the mattress over, alternate it from side to side, and rotate it from head to foot.
Ideally, this should be done once a week during the first three months and once a month afterward. Turning or moving a mattress should be done by two people.
Only flip a mattress when it is specifically identified as double-sided. One-sided mattresses should be rotated from head to foot.
2Air Your Mattress
Allow your mattress to air regularly by pulling back the bedding and leaving the mattress uncovered for a few hours each week.
This allows the mattress to breathe and helps prevent trapped moisture.
3Keep the Surface Clean
Use a soft brush to remove dust, dirt and lint from the surface.
Do not vacuum the mattress, as this may damage the mattress fillings.
4Use a Mattress Protector
We recommend using a good-quality mattress protector beneath your bedding.
A mattress protector is not required, but it helps guard against spills, stains, moisture and other damage that could affect warranty eligibility.
5Do Not Fold or Roll the Mattress
Do not fold or roll an innerspring mattress, even temporarily. Innerspring mattresses should be kept flat.
Mattresses designed for adjustable bases should be kept flat when the adjustable base is not in use.
6Allow the Mattress to Breathe
Do not place plastic sheeting, plastic bags or other non-breathable material between the mattress and its base.
These materials can trap condensation and cause damage.
7Protect the Mattress Edges
Avoid regularly sitting in the same position directly on the edge of the mattress.
Repeated concentrated pressure can strain the edge-support system and damage the mattress sides.
8Do Not Stand or Jump on the Bed
Do not stand on the mattress or foundation, and do not allow children to use the bed as a trampoline.
9Use a Proper Foundation
Do not place your mattress on an inferior, damaged or unsuitable base.
Using an improper foundation or bed frame can cause premature wear and may invalidate the warranty.
Regularly checking your mattress, foundation and bed frame will help provide better comfort and a longer usable life.
Mattress Warranty
What the Warranty Covers
During normal use, the warranty covers:
- Coils or wires that become loose or broken
- Coils or wires that protrude through or tear the mattress fabric
- Body indentations measuring 2 inches or greater
- Manufacturing defects in the mattress or foundation when the sleep set has received proper handling and normal use on a bed frame that provides solid support
Proper Support Requirements
Your mattress and foundation must be placed on a suitable bed frame that provides firm, stable support.
Queen and King bed frames must have:
- At least 10 wooden horizontal slats, spaced evenly across the frame
- Solid centre support with supporting legs extending firmly to the floor
Damage caused by inadequate support is not covered under warranty.
What the Warranty Does Not Cover
The warranty does not cover:
- Border wires bent during delivery or while moving the mattress
- Personal comfort preference
- Burns, cuts, tears, liquid damage or stains
- Physical abuse or damage to the mattress structure or cover
- Damage caused by an inappropriate or unsuitable box spring
- Body impressions measuring less than 2 inches
- Floor models sold at a discounted price
A mattress is designed to provide its intended performance when used with an appropriate box spring, foundation or support system.
Conditions That Void the Warranty
Warranty coverage will be void if:
- The mattress is in an unhygienic condition
- The mattress has visible stains, soiling or burns
- The mattress has been damaged through abuse or misuse
- The mattress has been damaged because of improper support from the box spring, foundation or bed frame
Body Impressions
Some body indentation is normal.
As the mattress is used, its upholstery and comfort layers naturally begin conforming to the sleeper's body. This does not necessarily mean that the mattress is defective.
If an impression begins developing, rotate the mattress every 30 to 90 days to encourage more even wear and help prevent further sagging.
Only body impressions measuring 2 inches or greater may qualify for warranty consideration.
Starting a Warranty Claim
All customer warranty claims are handled through Northern Lights Mattress Company. The original bill of sale is required. A warranty claim cannot be processed without valid proof of purchase.
To begin a claim, please provide:
- The original bill of sale
- The purchaser's name and contact information
- The mattress model and size
- A description of the issue
- Clear photographs of the entire mattress and reported defect
- Photographs of the foundation and bed frame
- A measurement of any reported body indentation
- Photographs of the mattress identification and law labels, when requested
A trained representative may inspect the mattress and support system in the customer's home to determine whether the issue qualifies for warranty service.
Please do not dispose of, alter or transport the mattress, foundation, bill of sale or identification labels while a claim is under review.
Northern Lights Mattress Company will review the information, handle the warranty process and advise the customer of the next steps.
